Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)
Personal Performance Coaching Instructions

I. The Set-up.
Please note, that each time we work together over the phone or in the office, I will be going through these instructions to help you follow the EFT basic receipt. At times, I may modify it, making it shorter or longer, depending on what is needed at the time. In all cases, you agree to take full responsibility for your self. While tapping the meridian points, do not tap so hard as to cause you injury. Remember, wiith EFT, we are not interested in having you go through emotional or physical pain. It is your responsibility to communicate with me what you are feeling at all time during a session, so that I can make adjustments that help you better enjoy the process.
- In most cases I will have you tap the karate chop point using your first two fingertips while making the set-up statement below. In some situation, I will instruct you to rub the tender spot (see diagram).
- “Even though I have this (insert your issue), “I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” You will need to continue tapping while saying the statement 3 times.
- For deep seeded issues, I may ask you to rub the tender spot on the chest (on both sides if possible) in a circular motion, while making the set-up statement, “Even though I have this (insert your issue), “I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” You will continue rubbing while saying the statement 3 times.
II. The Sequence.
Using your first two fingers, you will tap each of the following points 5-7 times while saying the reminder statement. Use a short statement such as “This (insert your issue)”. Example; “This fear of snakes” or “My anger at mother”, “The pain in my neck or lower back”, “This anxiety about not working” etc.
Here are the points to tap on: (the ones in bold are mandatory, the others optional)
- EB= Eyebrow point-, at the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to the side of the nose.
- SE= Side of the Eye, on the bone bordering the outside of the eye.
- UE= Under the Eye, on the bone directly under the eye.
- UN= Under Nose, in the center of the area between the nose and top lip.
- Ch= Chin, in the center between the bottom lip and bottom of the chin.
- CB= Collarbone, the junction where the collarbone, sternum and rib first meet.
- UA= Under the Arm, on the side of the body approximately 4 inches below the armpit.
- CRH= Crown of the head- not the top, but toward the back, just before it goes vertical is the “crown”
- LS=Liver spot (not shown on diagram)=about 2” under your breast and a few inches toward your side.
- TH= On the outside edge of the thumb, right next to the base of the fingernail.
- IF= Index finger, on the same spot as on the thumb
- MF= Middle finger, on the same spot as on the thumb
- RF= Ring finger, on the same spot as on the thumb (skipping the ring finger)
- KC= Karate Chop point. At the base little finger
- WR= Wrists, inside of wrists tapping against each other. (Good for stress and anxiety as well).
III. Fine Tuning – “9 Point Gamut”
Balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain. You can do this process at the end of each round, or more commonly, do it only once, after an issue is almost alleviated and has been reduced to a 1 or 2 intensity.
- Locate the gamut point on the back of your hand, which is between the little finger and ring finger and down about an inch. Keep tapping on that spot while repeating the reminder phrase and do the following:
- Close your eyes tightly, then open wide.
- While keeping your head still and by using your eyes only, look down hard to the right, then hard to the left. (Remember to keep tapping, keep repeating the reminder statement, and keep your head still.)
- Roll your eyes around in a big circle (keep your head straight ahead) as if looking at all the hands on a big clock. (keep tapping and repeating the reminder phrase)
- Roll your eyes around in the opposite direction (Keep tapping and saying the reminder statement)
- Hum 2 seconds of a familiar song like “Happy Birthday” or “Jingle Bells”. (Keep tapping)
- Count rapidly from 1 to 5 (Keep tapping)
- Again hum 2 seconds of the song (Keep tapping)
- Do another round of the tapping procedure starting with the Eyebrow point and ending after the karate chop, while saying the reminder statement.
IV. Subsequent Rounds
Once you have completed the first round of tapping, reassess your intensity level and note the change.
- If the problem is less severe, but still noticeable, change the set-up set statement to something like this: “Even though there’s still some remaining (whatever the issue is ....) I deeply and completely accept myself” Repeat it 3 times while rubbing. Then, repeat the tapping sequence with an altered reminder statement of “still some of this… or remaining (issue)”
- Keep repeating this procedure until the intensity on the issue has dropped below a 3. When there is very little of it remaining, tap one more time with the setup statement of “Even though there’s still some remaining _________, I choose to fully overcome (or eliminate) this (problem, fear, issue, etc.) and I deeply love and accept myself”. Do the sequence, (the tapping) down to the karate point, then the 9- point gamut (with humming and eye work), then the tapping round again down to the karate chop. By now, the issue should be completely resolved. Here is a summary of everything to help make each session easy to follow the EFT process.
First Round
Find Sore Spot and rub or Tap Karate Chop Point while doing the Set-up phrase “Even though I have this… (issue), I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
- Tapping Points- Tap all points down to the karate chop while saying the reminder statement.
- GAMUT - Eye movement, humming, & counting, while still tapping
- Tapping Points again –with reminder statement down to the karate chop.
- Check to see how you feel on the 1-10 scale.
Second Round
Set up phrase; “Even though I still have some of this… (issue), “I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
- Tapping Points- down to the karate chop, while saying reminder statement
- GAMUT - Eye movement, humming, & counting, while still tapping
- Tapping Points again –with reminder statement “remaining (…issue)
- Check again to see how you feel. Repeat this round if intensity is above a 3.
Third Round or Final Round if necessary
When issue is 3 or less. Use the Set up phrase of; “I choose to completely overcome (or let go of) this (…issue) and I deeply and completely love and accept myself
- Tapping Points- with reminder statement down to karate chop
- GAMUT - Eye movement, humming, & counting, while still tapping
- Tapping Points again –with reminder statement of “completely overcoming (whatever the issue is)”
- The Shortcut -
Once you have mastered the above technique, try moving on to the Shortcut. Instead of the entire sequence, just do the set-up, and all the tapping points down to under the arm.
- Do it twice then take a reading on your intensity or “SUDs” level (Subjective Units of Distress). If it went down, then the shortcut worked for you and you may skip the Gamut with the fingers, eye work, humming, etc.
- Keep repeating the shortcut steps until you are down to a zero. If it did not work for you, do the entire sequence, including the eye-work, gamut, fingers, etc.
- Always keep going until you are at a zero of intensity. Completely overcoming an issue will likely keep the issue from returning.
Note: If you are stuck or find you are not getting the results you want then you may be:
1) Experiencing a psychological reversal* or
2) a sensitivity to a substance that’s blocking your progress or
3) Be dehydrated. Need to drink good water.
- But first try this: Tap on the karate chop point while repeating 3 times: “Even though I Don’t Want to Get Over this Problem, I accept myself completely,” I know, it may seem odd, but try it, it usually works, unless you have one of the other 2 conditions mentioned above.
- For many people, they prefer working with an EFT Coach. This is because, in order to go deep into a problem, it helps to have someone to reflect back to you what you are feeling emotionally or physically. It can be hard at first to do this to your self. However, as your confidence using EFT grows over time, you may not need coaching, but for really difficult and stubborn situations.
Other suggestions and tips:
- For tapping, use the index finger, middle finger and ring finger, at least, or all four fingers are fine.
- Tap on both sides of your body when possible.
- If you can only do one side of the sore spot rub, use the left side, over your heart.
- Do the karate chop several times during the day to keep from being reversed. Do it every time you are at a stop light, in the shower, on the toilet, every time you drink water, etc. (15-20 times a day).
- Do EFT while undisturbed (turn off your cell phone; put the kids in front of the TV, etc.)
- Take off your watch, bracelets or glasses and remove any electrical “appliances” like cell phones, Palm Pilots, Walkmans, pagers, etc. from you body
- Drink a lot of water daily—at least 16 oz.
- Do the Personal Peace Process everyday (see our website if don’t already have the instructions)
- And most importantly: Practice EFT every day.
Doing EFT consistently and properly can give you the emotional freedom and inner peace now, that most people crave throughout their lives. Among other things:
- EFT can help you go through life with less stress, physical pain, grief and angst.
- EFT can help you feel happier, more joyful, and more fulfilled.
- EFT can help you experience life with more peace, power and purpose.
However, like anything worthwhile, EFT works best if you use it daily!
